Good Friday

6 04 2012

We realize that we haven’t been posting too much about our day to day lives, but that is because our day to day lives are pretty boring.  For example, on this beautiful Good Friday holiday, we both spent the day in our pajamas doing work.  Jenn was doing work for her job, while I was doing contract work.

Hard at work...

Hope you guys have got to go out and enjoy the sunshine and have a better day than us! Luckily for us, we have much more fun planned for tomorrow. Jenn gets to head up to Owen Sound (by herself) to celebrate Brady and Nicole’s wedding in the form of a wedding shower!  I, get to do more contract work.  However, tomorrow evening, I will be heading to Jim’s for a hockey pool.

Honeymoon… SURPRISE!

3 04 2012

Tonight’s topic is our upcoming honeymoon! The idea behind our honeymoon destination gets a big shout out to Chris and Vicki who got married this past October at Casa Loma! Anyway, Chris had the unique privilege to pick a location, plan the trip and surprise Vicki the day they were leaving with the destination!

So, Jenn and I stole their idea and now I am set up with a unique opportunity to either blow Jenn away with an amazing honeymoon, or start our marriage off on a bad foot with a terrible unplanned honeymoon! Chris set the bar pretty high with an amazing honeymoon to Hawaii!

So this is going to be an interesting time for me to try and come with up with some awesome honeymoon vacations.  Probably the most important thing for me to keep in mind is that it has to at least have the illusion that I put some thought into it!  Damn!  :) So right now, I have done some research to try and come up with a bunch of different ideas; to try and come up with a unique experience.

It’s interesting to see some of the top honeymoon vacations that are posted throughout the web.  With unlimited funds, I would just do all of them, but unfortunately we were not the couple that won 50 million! Anyway, so we thought it might be cool to see what some of our friends and blog readers thought would be an awesome honeymoon.  If you want to help in my quest to blow Jenn away (with an amazing honeymoon), text me, call me, message me, or somehow get me the message and let me know what you think would be amazing.

Kenyan African Safari

As an idea of what we are up for, there was a Groupon for a Kenyan Safari that sounded awesome, way out of budget but would be amazing.  We are open for a beach resort (preferably adult only), or a city trip.  As with a lot of things we are fairly open minded!  Bring on your ideas!

The world’s BEST, most AMAZING Wedding party!!! Part Deux

27 03 2012

Never (in all my 7 days of blogging) have I been this excited to write a blog post! It’s time to meet our WEDDING PARTY!!! Time to meet the GIRLS!!!

Let’s start with my CO-MOHS: Jen and Anna (collectively, we have been referred to as the 3 muskateers for 15 years).

Co-MOHs

I met both of these ladies when I first moved to Mississauga from Montreal in grade 6 and we have been best friends ever since. Refusing to break up the threesome, we all chose to go to the University of Guelph together (Anna loved it so much that she hasn’t even left yet :)) Nowadays, we have a weekly date night to ensure that real life doesn’t get in the way of our friendship. The girls are amazing co-MOHs and have been a great help in planning the wedding (and the million other activities that come along with the wedding).

ANNA

Anna

When I first moved to Mississauga, I lived in a brand new neighbourhood where luckily Anna lived a short 5 minute walk from my house (which later unfortunately became closer to 15 minutes when our neighbours put up fences). During elementary school, Anna and I practically lived together – our days would start before the school bus even showed up (we’d call each other any time a good song would come on the radio in the morning) and we would then hang out after school until late in the evenings (we were ridiculously cool and hung out at the park A LOT).

Yumm

In high school, Anna and I went to different schools, but that didn’t stop us from hanging out together all the time – Anna decided to not get her driver’s license until University, so she kept Jen and I around for rides :) Somehow, we got ridiculously lucky and both our schools decided to have Prom night on the same night at the same venue!! (Jen unfortunately chose to skip the prom party, however, we picked her up in the limo at the end of the night for a McD’s run!) Below is a picture of prom night with Akeem, our shared date!

Prom with Anna & Akeem

Following high school we went to UofG together, fulfilling a childhood dream of living together for 2 years! (somehow, our townhouse never quite lived up to the house we built in elementary school though). Anna is currently avoiding real life by using her crazy smarts to earn a PhD in something sciency that involves lots of lab time and a bad case of allergies :) Not surprisingly, Anna’s been an awesome Co-MOH and has taken the lead on much of the planning! Despite the fact that the lack of control makes me twitch a little, I definitely appreciate all the help :)

JEN

Jen

Jen, otherwise known as lil Jen, is the other half of the Co-MOH duo. Back in the days when I wasn’t lazy and I actually played sports,  Jen was my constant companion. Jen and I played hockey, softball and rowed together for years. Jen, unlike me, continues to do so today – Go Jen!

2009 Row for Heart - notice how Jen is still dry!

Jen works ridiculous long days as both a kinesiologist  & personal trainer. Somehow she found time to buy a house last year and is about to move into the most beautifully designed and decorated house (with the fanciest shower ever – so jealous – Anna and I actually plan to move in to that shower this weekend!!). Jen is one of those people who you can sit with and chat for hours with. She’s smart and funny and ridiculously little! Despite the fact that Jen isn’t one of those girls that watches wedding shows for fun, she’s been absolutely amazing during this process so far. She’s come to ridiculously boring wedding shows with me and spent hours discussing some teeny tiny wedding details! Jen, you are awesome and I am so happy that you agreed to be one of my co-MOHs!!!

Fun Times!

MEGAN

Megan

Megs is my long lost twin. I haven’t even known her for 3 years yet, but it feels like I’ve known her for ages! We met at work and have shared a cubicle area (with our awesome friends Xyza and Anastasia) ever since. Not only do we work together, but we’ve also been carpooling since Max and I moved to Waterdown over 1 year ago. Although I should totally hate her by now based on the sheer amount of time we spend together, I love our daily car rides, week-end adventures and (hopefully annual) roadtrips!

Megs in Action

In typical Max fashion (he’s always trying to steal my friends :)) Max became very good friends with Megan’s fiance Jim (and Megs of course) – bonding over a common love of baseball! Last year, the boys took over our plans of going on a trip together and planned a baseball roadtrip instead! The 4 of us went on a mini baseball roadtrip to Cleveland – along the way, we stopped for some shopping, more baseball, lots of ice cream, and a few photo ops!

Roadtripping!

As Max mentioned before, Megan and Jim got engaged under 2 weeks after Max and I did (they have the cutest engagement story – Megan, start a blog!!). Needless to say, Megan has been an amazing wedding side-kick. I absolutely love having her as a sounding board for all the little details for our wedding and especially love hearing all about her wedding plans (despite how painfully slowly she moves).

NICOLE

Nic and I

I’ve known Nicole for many years – ever since she started dating her soon to be hubby Brady. Nicole is my official wedding buddy! Not only have we attended many weddings together, we are also planning our weddings at the same time! Nic has a ridiculously awesome/difficult job as a social service worker and I am always completely amazed at the work she does – she is clearly an amazing person. I could never in a million years think of doing the work she does!

Another Wedding!

She is also one of the sweetest, most thoughtful people. When Max and I got engaged, she made me an amazing wedding planning book so that I could be organized throughout the whole planning process. I brought that book with me to all the (20+) venues we visited during our search and quizzed each and every one of them. She also sent with it a huge bag of wedding magazines and planning books – I was like a kid in a candy store for weeks!! For those who don’t know Nicole and Brady, they are planning a fabulous wedding for this June (Finally!! they’ve been engaged for years :))

Nic and I

Every time Nicole and I get together, we are sure to have an awesome time!!! To be honest, it often includes a lot of drinking and a lot of dancing – and definitely great company! We once had the brilliant idea of trying to keep up with the boys drink for drink – bad idea… though we had fun with the baby sheep that night :) I’m very excited to be a part of Nicole’s big day in June and even more excited to have her be a part of my wedding next January!!

Baby Sheep

SHARON

the COP!!

Last, but certainly not least is my amazing lil sister Sharon. I don’t know if I could be any prouder of her! Sharon’s fully realized her life long dream of becoming a police officer – she’s been working in the Kitchener area since the beginning of the year – so watch out everyone! She might be little but she sure is strong! For some reason, I had a momentary lapse in judgement when Sharon was at the police college and I allowed her to try to arrest me… there may have been tears…Sharon is such a cry baby :)

dance puppets dance!!

Sharon is still my lil sister, however, she totally grew up last year when she not only landed her dream job, she bought a house and got married! Sharon and I couldn’t be any more different when it comes to wedding planning. I personally love it, Sharon on the other hand had to be locked in a room just to discuss details. Despite the fact that I had to force the planning on her, in the end we still had fun trying to come up with the right music, the right kissing game and the right timeline. Sharon and her husband Barry had an absolutely amazing and beautiful wedding last June.

Borrowing clothes (the one and only time)

Sharon, the photo above is for you – I think this was the one and only time I have ever borrowed your clothes! You can remind me next time you steal my clothes :) Sharon constantly borrows/steals my clothes! This has been going on for well over 10 years. For example, the last thing Sharon borrowed from me was the bridesmaid dress I’d worn for her wedding – she asked for it 2 days after I got it back from the dry cleaners!!

At the Bar

I took Sharon out on her first bar night when the family came to visit me in Switzerland over Christmas years ago. Although we had a great time, Sharon was not that impressed by the whole bar scene :) (It wasn’t much of a bar – we were in a quiet pub in the Alps) Nowadays, hanging out with my sis and Barry consists of house visits and puppy play dates – my fave :)

Although wedding’s aren’t necessarily her thing, it’s been amazing having my sis participate in all the wedding fun (it’s not over yet Sharon!!) and I obviously can’t wait to party with her in under 10 months!!

The FLOWER GIRL – MADDY

Maddy's Flower Girl Dress

Of course, the wedding wouldn’t be the same without our fabulous flower girl! Maddy is Chris’ big sister. Just like her brother, she is an incredibly happy kid. She’s always smiling, and always bouncing off the walls with excitement :) Max and I have an absolute amazing time when we babysit (even though Ben and Wen are pretty generous with the sugar before we pick the kids up!). Maddy has overnight become an incredible reader and is now an avid book worm! She also has a “lovable” hamster named Hammie.

Maddy is just as excited about the wedding as her lil bro Chris. However, unlike her brother (who is thrilled to be wearing a suit), Maddy has her own creative touches that she wants to add to the wedding. I think if it were left up to her (which it totally is) we would have the most colorful flower girl walking down the aisle. I can’t wait to see what else she comes up with :)

The world’s BEST, most AMAZING Wedding party!!!

26 03 2012

So you have met us, and now you have met our immediate family.  Jenn and I now would like to introduce you to our extended family in the form of our wedding party!  We have an amazing wedding party that include 10 amazing people! They are going to be a big part of our day, and have been a big part of our lives! As we have a total of 10, we decided to break this post into two separate posts, so today you get to meet the guys!  Starting with my best man, Andy!

Andy:

Andy walking towards his bride

Unlike Jenn, I only have a single best man and his name is Andy (a common name in my wedding party). Andy and I have known each other for as long as it is possible to know someone. I was born 13 days prior to Andy’s arrival, but due to complications with my mom, Jesse and I were still in the hospital when Andy was born. Fast forward to our high school days, where Andy went to adifferent high school than the majority of us from our public school. It didn’t matter, we maintained a close friendship, hanging out almost every weekend together. We hung out everywhere there was to hang out in Owen Sound, the bowling alley and the pool hall – drinking age appropriate beverages.. at least it is age appropriate now.  In fact I had my first drink with Andy and our other friend Routy!

Andy drinking a beer

As mentioned we spent a ton of time together doing some pretty cool  things, one of the more memorable was seeing Andy take the “Super Dodge” out our secondary driveway on our neighbours property in what must have been 2 feet of snow; I didn’t have to go get the tractor to pull him out. I miss that truck! In second year at Guelph, Andy had just transferred to the Guelph campus of Connestoga, so I actually had a chance to live with him for around a month while he looked for a place. He lovingly became “Number 5″ with my roommates. Last summer, I had the honor to serve as one of Andy’s groomsmen, and now he gets to do the same.  It wouldn’t be the same without him.

Andy and I during Andy's Wedding

My day would be nowhere near the same without Andy standing by my side.  Andy has been with me through thick and thin, sharing many big days and many small non-remembered days. Andy’s my best friend, and I am completely honoured to have him be my best man!

Brady:

Brady impressing his soon-to-be-wife Nicole

Next in chronological order of meeting is Brady (the second half of Nicole and Brady). I havent known Brady for as long as Andy, but I have known him since Kindergarden. We didn’t really hang out as much in public school, but come high school, we became really good friends.  As with Andy, basically every weekend we were hanging out together. It all started Friday nights at Youth Group. Every night we would go do some random things and then hang out either watching a movie with the group or going to hang out and walk the big streets of Chatsworth. And then Saturday nights would usually start and end at Brady’s. Often enough that we basically had assigned beds and just assumed we were going to be there. It was basically expected that we would begin the night there, that one night we ended up getting yelled at by Terry for letting ourselves in to their house and drinking until Brady showed up (unfortunately Brady never made us aware that he wasn’t going to be out that night).

Brady and Nicole at Rae's wedding

We had some good times in high school that continued through university with some rent-paying parties where we would drive down to Mississauga to drop off a rent check for Brady (post-dated didn’t work I guess). In June, I will be honored to be a part of Brady’s wedding. I still take partial credit to hooking the two of them up, as Brady told some of my war stories to let Nicole know how fun we were (namely our OAC commencement).

Brady, Emmerson and I

Brady is one of my closest friends (closest geographically) and am honoured to have him as one of my groomsmen.  I looked forward to the next couple months helping him get ready to be married, and then the rest of the summer where we will hang out and drink a few beers in my backyard or his!

Andrew:

Emmerson celebrating mine and Drew's birthday at my dad's farm

Yep, another Andrew. We call him Emmerson.Sticking with chronological order, I really met Emmerson in grade nine.  He was good friends with Brady and soon became good friends with me.  We hung out in the hallway together in the old OS and eventually hung out basically every Saturday night. Unlike the other two, Emmerson didn’t want to burst into flames by coming to youth group (somehow we managed to avoid this), so he would show up after the Christian part with a case of brown pops and see what we were up to, usually with Crowther.

Emmerson swooping in on Brady's girl

Emmerson is probably one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.  He is always the first to offer to help you out, whether it is bringing his truck to help you move in/out of your new place, or whether it is bringing beer when you show up for the first time in months back home. Emmerson is a blast, and has always been into fixing things. Sometimes we would even try and help. One day when he was changing engines in his third or fourth truck (in high school), the guys all came over to help. And by help, I mean drink beer, shoot the $hit and watch him change out the engine. In fairness, we did try and offer advice when possible. Emmerson, I would have ignored us too!

Andy, Emmerson, Dan and I

As with Andy, I also had the opportunity to host Emmerson in my first year residence. I’m not exactly sure how I managed to hide him from the authorities for a full month, but I was happy to receive rent payments for that month. 6-8 24s of Max Ice that we shared for that month. Emmerson is always willing to help out, and is one of the best guys I know, I’m extremely happy that he is going to be part of this day!

Drew:

Drew at Jane and Bri's Wedding

And now let me introduce you to the third and final Andrew (Drew). Compared to the others, I haven’t known Drew nearly as long. I first met Drew in first year university, in Maritime Hall of the South residences!  He was the second computer science major that I met in two floors of the building. I was pretty pumped that I would have a couple people to go to classes with! Throughout first year, Drew was the person I connected with the most.  Between spending hours upon hours of watching “cost-effectively obtained” tv shows in his room, to going outside to “chat” and let off some steam.

"Dress to Impress"

After first year, Drew hadn’t had enough of me, so the two of us, George and Gabor all moved in together the next fall for second year in an East residence townhouse. We had some amazing times in that residence, between “Dress to Impress” bar nights to 151 regrets.  Probably the most important times were the grilled cheese sandwiches and late night bbqs that will be remembered for ever!  We ended up living together throughout undergrad; where the fun times never seemed to end.

Drew showing me how to "Dance"

This past September, Drew brought the entire group together when he and Alanna got hitched. The night proved that the party hasn’t stopped for us, and that we still know how to have a great time.  Some of the best times last year involved Drew, between going to Vegas for his bachelor party, to just hanging out with him and some of the boys at his condo!  Let’s keep the good times rolling! In the words of Drew, I’m stoked that he is going to be apart of my wedding party!

Mike:

I make fire!

Last, but certainly not least is Mike Pearson!  I met Mike a few short months after Drew, which makes him my newest friend in this group of guys!  Mike went to the University of Toronto, so I actually met him when he came to see Jenn, Anna and Jen at Guelph.  So to put this lightly, Mike being in my wedding party confirms that I have stolen him from Jenn!

Mike at Karla's Cottage

Although Mike didn’t go to the same university, he visited the girls often enough that we got to hang out a fair amount throughout undergrad and my masters.  Probably, the biggest helper in our friendship were the numerous cottage weekends, where we hung out, drank a ton, and sat around on the dock. Now, we get together regularly between cottage weekends, to Anna’s place, to Drew’s place and golf.  Most importantly golf!  I had golfed once in my life before I met Mike.  Now I am an avid amateur golfer, keyword – amateur! I consider Mike my caddy, as he is always willing to help me try and better my golf game.  I have a great set of golf club, but I still need a lot of work, which Mike can attest to! Mike has probably the most uncanny ability to gamble!  My has what he calls his “idiot” jar, where all his gambling winnings go into.  This “idiot” jar has allowed him to pay for numerous excursions on our trip to Costa Rica, to basically paying for his trip to Vegas! Next time I go to Vegas with Mike, I’m just going to double up all his bets!

Mike and Drew

In fact, none of these posts would be possible without Mike!  Mike was my cover story when I went to confirm the diamond that ended up being the centerpiece to Jenn’s engagement ring.  Though, it seems to be that he could keep the secret from Jenn, but not her Co-MOHs! No harm no foul!  I’m absolutely honoured to have Mike in my wedding party and expect the good times to continue on!

Chris:

Now I know that I said that I had 5 groomsmen.  But we can not forget our fantastic ring bearer! Chris is my nephew who will be the man with the most important job! From the sounds of it he is pretty excited to get to wear a tie for his role! Chris has had a tough start to his young life.  Chris was born with a number of heart defects, but you would never know it seeing him!  Chris is turning into quite the little guy with his own personality.  This past month we got to see a little of the spark that fills the little guy when we took him and his big sister Madelyn to the bowling alley.  Chris is a little monkey!  The hardest part of Chris’ job may be not climbing all over everything at the wedding!

On our way to the movies!

For those of you that do not know Chris, he is a trained and qualified Jedi Knight and has even dueled with Darth Vader this year in Disneyland.  When Chris isn’t performing Jedi tricks and dueling with lightsabers, you can often find him fighting crime as Spider-man, or Iron Man (I think it depends on the type of crime)!  Chris is the happiest little guy I know, and who wouldn’t want that infecting our wedding!

Well, those are the guys.  I have known them for around a century when combined and they are going to be standing up next to me when I get married.  I can’t wait to have them up there with me as they are all a big part of my life.  So boys, drink up, its party time – minus Chris of course!

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post where you will get to see the beautiful girls that Jenn has in her wedding party!  Remember, all these views are helping us in our goal to win $10,000 in services from the wonderful WeddingGirl Dot Ca, the amazing Rick Denham Photography, and the inspiring Captivate Bridal. As you help us out, we are one step closer to winning the prize!
